Car tech has come a long way. We’ve gone from cassette players and manual windows… to voice control, massaging seats and cars that practically park themselves.
But every now and then, car manufacturers throw in something that makes you stop and go: “Wait… why does this exist?” Let’s take a look.
BYD Atto 3 - Built-in Guitar Strings
The BYD Atto 3 looks sensible from the outside. Clean, modern, nothing too wild.
Then you open the door… and suddenly you’re in a music studio. The door pockets feature actual string-like elements, designed to look (and yes, feel) like guitar strings. You can even pluck them if you’re bored in traffic.
Is it necessary? Absolutely not. Will it make you smile? Probably. Looking for a deeper dive into the BYD Atto 3? Find out our deals here
Audi Q7 - Espresso, Anyone?
The Audi Q7 takes in-car luxury to a whole new level. There’s an optional plug-in espresso machine that sits neatly in the cabin and can brew a proper coffee in minutes. Not a lukewarm cup from a service station, a real espresso.
It even comes with branded cups, pods and a tidy little storage case. Suddenly, traffic jams don’t sound so bad. Find out more on the Audi Q7 here.
Volkswagen ID.7 - Dry Your Clothes… While Driving
The Volkswagen ID.7 introduces something called “Dry Boost”, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Hop in soaked from the rain? No problem.
The car can crank up the heated seats and ventilation to dry you (and the seats) as you drive. It’s one of those features you didn’t know you needed… until you’re caught in a British downpour. There’s plenty more that the ID.7 offers, check out our offers here.
Renault 5 - The Baguette Basket
The Renault 5 features a woven wicker basket mounted beside the centre console, designed with an actual basket maker. Yes, it’s perfect for baguettes.
But also snacks, small bags, or anything you don’t want rolling around the cabin. Want to see more on the Renault 5? See our full offers here.
So… pointless or brilliant?
At first glance, these features feel like gimmicks. And to be fair, some of them definitely are. But they also show something interesting, car brands are starting to think beyond just performance and efficiency. They’re focusing on experience and personality.
And sometimes, it’s the small, slightly odd touches that make a car memorable.
